FLOATING PANES

Overlay panes that float, drag, resize, and toggle between floating and tiled.

Toggle Floating

Press Ctrl+Shift+F to create a new floating pane or toggle the floating pane overlay on and off. Floating panes sit above your tiled splits, giving you quick access to a shell without disrupting your layout.

Float-Tile Toggle

Move any pane between floating and tiled modes with Ctrl+Shift+G. A tiled pane becomes a floating overlay; a floating pane snaps back into the tile tree. Your shell session is preserved through the transition.

Drag and Resize

Floating panes support full mouse-driven positioning. Drag the title area to move a pane anywhere in the window, and drag edges or corners to resize. Panes snap to window edges for quick alignment.

Z-Ordering

When multiple floating panes are open, they layer naturally with proper z-ordering. Clicking a pane raises it to the front. Drop shadows distinguish floating panes from the tiled layout beneath them.

Minimum Size

Floating panes enforce minimum dimensions so they never shrink too small to be usable. You can resize freely within those bounds without worrying about losing content or controls.
